About Our Church

Our Vision

A Place Where People Encounter God.

Our Mission

The mission of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church is to offer families a Christ-centered, Biblically based ministry that is educational, evangelical, inspirational and combative of negative and demonic forces in our community.

Theme 2010 Doers Of The Word James 1:23

God has given us the privilege of running this leg of the race that began more than a century ago in 1876 when Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church began as the first Negro Baptist Church in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. click to learn more about our ministries.

Enon continues to be a place where people encounter God. Through the ministry at our East location, on Cheltenham Avenue in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, we are committed to developing effective strategies to deter youth violence and to positively impact our local, national, and international community. Enon-East is really a big back yard for the community to come and play and for youth to engage in competitive athletics. Enon-West, located on Coulter Street in Germantown, is a hub for community development activities including a Christian summer camping experience and year-round day care, all part of our effort to redirect the energy of youth away from violence through positive activities in a Christian context.

But much more than providing social services, we believe that positive change must be undergirded by a transformed life in Christ. Therefore, we are relentless evangelists. And once saved, we are committed to becoming mature disciples through in-reach (Bible study), up-reach (worship), and outreach (meeting the needs of others). Enon-East also includes a 1,500 seat Family Life Center for community programs, new classrooms that provide space and technology to facilitate learning, and a 5,000 seat sanctuary that allows us to significantly expand our evangelistic efforts.

We believe that God develops us through relationships with others. Therefore, while we certainly are not perfect people here at Enon, we believe that the church is nonetheless an effective way for us to deepen our relationship with Christ.
