Sickle Cell Disease
In 2007, proceeds benefited Sickle Cell Disease. Why? Sickle Cell Disease is a hereditary disorder that mostly affects people of African ancestry. One treatment for this disease is blood transfusions and the best match for an African American is an African American.
This year, our benefit organization is Sickle Cell Center at CHOP. This organization provides health services to patients and their families. In addition, they have a summer camp "Free To Be Me," a Teen Group, and they provide a broad range of educational services to the community.
The Sickle Cell Center at CHOP provides excellent care for patients while giving them and their family health education and support. We believe the Sickle Cell Center at CHOP not only exemplifies our mission to help persons with Sickle Cell Disease understand and take care of themselves properly but also build self-esteem so that these individuals can live productive and healthy lives.
